Konami is introducing a host of gameplay and technical improvements in Fox Hunt, the upcoming multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, set for release in fall 2025. The mode will follow shortly after the main game’s launch on August 28 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Helmed by Yu Sahara, a veteran of multiple Metal Gear titles, Fox Hunt will reimagine the franchise’s online stealth gameplay with updated systems and visuals. Sahara emphasized that the mode is being built with current multiplayer standards in mind. “We really appreciate all the long-time fans of Metal Gear Online who have always wanted to see it make a comeback, but the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since Metal Gear Online,” he said.
One of the key upgrades is an advanced camouflage mechanic, inspired by Metal Gear Solid 4’s OctoCamo. Players will be able to seamlessly blend into environmental textures as soon as they stop moving, a feature designed to heighten tension and strategic play. Early demonstrations suggest more fluid animations, faster adaptation to surroundings, and improved texture blending compared to past entries.
Graphical enhancements will also play a central role. According to Konami, the updated lighting, environmental detail, and character rendering are meant to elevate the hide-and-seek gameplay dynamic to “a whole new level.” The developer says these visual upgrades are intended not just for aesthetics, but also to improve clarity and immersion during tense stealth encounters.
While the publisher has yet to confirm specifics such as maximum player counts, cross-platform play, or additional modes, it has pledged to reveal more technical details closer to launch. The improvements aim to address long-standing fan requests for a richer, more balanced stealth multiplayer experience.
Despite lingering doubts from the reception of 2018’s Metal Gear Survive, early impressions suggest Fox Hunt could mark a significant step forward for the series’ competitive play, offering both veteran fans and new players a refined take on Metal Gear’s signature stealth mechanics.
