HMD, widely known for its Android smartphones, may be preparing to introduce its first laptop, according to a recent leak circulating on social media. The device, referred to as the HMD (Chrome)Book CS-1 Flip, would place the company in direct competition with established Chromebook manufacturers if launched.

Although HMD has focused primarily on smartphones, with additional products including tablets and feature phones, a new post from X user @smashx_60 claims the firm has developed a convertible 2-in-1 laptop. The leaked name suggests a design that allows the display to flip 360 degrees, similar to existing models in the Chromebook category.

The leak indicates the CS-1 Flip will be powered by an Intel processor, though clock speed and chipset information were not provided. The report also noted uncertainty regarding the operating system, stating that the device could ship either with ChromeOS or the still-unreleased Aluminium OS — the operating system expected to result from the merger of ChromeOS and Android. In the initial leak, the source said the company has its “first laptop on the way.”

There are currently no indications regarding the laptop’s display size, pricing or intended user demographic. Market positioning may be crucial, as the Chromebook sector remains competitive with major players such as Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Samsung.

HMD has not commented on the leak, and no launch timeline has been reported. Further details are expected to surface if the CS-1 Flip is nearing official announcement.
