Lumia Health has introduced the Lumia Smart Earrings, a fitness wearable that attaches to the ear rather than the wrist or finger, marking an unusual design shift in the consumer health-tracking market. The company markets the device as discreet and lightweight, saying it resembles a small earring from the front while housing its sensors behind the ear.
The device is designed to monitor blood flow, a capability rarely offered in consumer wearables. Lumia Health says this enables users to observe physiological effects such as responses to caffeine intake. The company states that the tracker “can measure blood flow,” highlighting the feature as a key distinguishing point. Additional metrics include heart rate variability, resting heart rate and step counting.

The Lumia 2 clips onto the ear without requiring a piercing and can also attach to an ear-stud, making it nearly invisible during use. Lumia Health says the device is built to remain secure during workouts and offers a battery life of five to eight days.
The wearable is not yet on sale, but Lumia Health has announced a starting price of US$249. The company also indicates that a paid subscription will be required, with costs expected to begin at around US$10 per month. Interested customers can register for email updates ahead of availability.
