Meta Platforms said it has reached agreements with three nuclear energy companies to secure clean and reliable electricity for its expanding data center and artificial intelligence operations, deepening its involvement in U.S. nuclear power as energy demand from AI infrastructure rises.

The agreements, concluded following a nuclear-focused request-for-proposals process, involve advanced reactor developers Oklo and TerraPower as well as power producer Vistra. Meta said the projects are intended to preserve and expand existing nuclear capacity, accelerate next-generation reactor development and strengthen the domestic nuclear supply chain, while supplying electricity to grids that support its operations.

Under the arrangements with Vistra, Meta will provide long-term financial backing to extend the operating lives and increase output at three nuclear power plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania: Perry, Davis-Besse and Beaver Valley. Separate agreements with Oklo and TerraPower support the development of new advanced nuclear facilities, including TerraPower’s Natrium reactor units and Oklo’s planned Aurora Powerhouse reactors in Ohio.

Meta said the combined projects could support up to 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing nuclear generation capacity by 2035, creating thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of long-term operational roles. The company added that it pays the full cost of electricity used by its data centers and views the investments as a way to add firm, always-available power to regional grids without shifting costs to consumers.

The move highlights a broader trend among large technology companies turning to nuclear energy to meet rising power needs from AI and cloud computing. Meta said the agreements build on more than a decade of clean energy investments and are part of long-term planning to ensure reliable electricity supply as its U.S. data center footprint continues to grow.
