Microsoft will discontinue a little-used feature that allowed users to send documents directly from Microsoft Word to Amazon’s Kindle devices, with the change set to take effect in February 2026, according to an update on the company’s support pages.

The feature, known as Send to Kindle from Microsoft Word, was introduced in April 2023 for Microsoft 365 users, enabling documents to be transferred to a Kindle library with a single click. It supported all Kindle models and was positioned as particularly useful for the Kindle Scribe, where users could annotate Word documents using a stylus.

As first reported by Good Ereader, Microsoft has updated its documentation to state that the feature will stop working on February 9, 2026. “Send to Kindle from Microsoft Word will be deprecated beginning February 9, 2026, across all platforms,” the notice said, referring to web, Windows and Mac versions of Word.

Neither Microsoft nor Amazon has publicly explained the decision. However, the quiet nature of the rollout and limited awareness of the feature have led to speculation that adoption was low, reducing the incentive to maintain the integration.

Users will still be able to transfer Word documents to their Kindle devices through Amazon’s web-based Send to Kindle service, which supports a broad range of file formats, including DOC, DOCX, PDF, EPUB and several image and text formats, the companies said.
