Tesla is preparing to roll out Version 14 of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, according to Chief Executive Elon Musk. The company’s advanced driver-assistance system, which requires human supervision, is designed to eventually enable fully autonomous driving.

Musk confirmed on X that the new version will enter early wide release next week, with Version 14.1 expected about two weeks later. He added that Version 14.2 would mark a significant leap in performance, with cars expected to handle roads more fluidly. He suggested the software could feel almost “sentient,” reflecting a more natural driving style similar to a human driver.

Version 14.0 goes into early wide release next week, then 14.1 about 2 weeks later and finally 14.2.

The car will feel almost like it is sentient being by 14.2.

The upcoming release follows gradual improvements since FSD Version 12, which Tesla has described as one of its most important AI and Autopilot upgrades. Version 14 is expected to reduce the frequency of steering-wheel prompts — known as “nags” — that many drivers found frustrating in earlier iterations.

Tesla said the new release will rely on neural networks with ten times more parameters than before, which is intended to significantly improve decision-making in real-world conditions.

Musk also clarified that FSD Version 14 differs from the Unsupervised FSD being tested in Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet in Austin, Texas. That system is capable of operating without human drivers, whereas the new software still requires supervision.

The release is seen as another step in Tesla’s effort to advance toward fully autonomous driving, a long-standing goal for the company and a key component of its strategy in artificial intelligence.
