OpenAI has introduced a new shopping research tool designed to help ChatGPT users navigate product choices by generating personalized buyer’s guides. The company said the feature allows people to describe what they are looking for and receive curated recommendations based on up-to-date information pulled from across the internet.
According to OpenAI, the tool is intended for more complex decisions involving multiple options, tradeoffs, and technical details. “Shopping research builds a thoughtful guide to help you decide,” the company said, noting that the system asks targeted questions to understand user needs and preferences before compiling results.

The feature gathers information including pricing, availability, reviews and product specifications, then presents options that users can refine by marking items as “Not interested” or “More like this.” OpenAI said the tool performs particularly well in categories such as electronics, beauty, home and garden, and sports equipment.
Shopping research is rolling out to all logged-in ChatGPT users across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans on both mobile and web. The company said it will offer near-unlimited usage during the holiday period to support gift shopping, while also integrating the feature into ChatGPT Pulse for Pro subscribers.

Once the research process is complete, ChatGPT produces a concise buyer’s guide summarizing top choices, key differences and relevant tradeoffs. Users can click through to retailer sites to make purchases, and OpenAI said it plans to support direct checkout within ChatGPT for participating merchants in the future.
