Call of Duty could arrive on Nintendo’s Switch 2 in 2026, according to a report that suggests work on a version for the handheld console is nearing completion, potentially ending the franchise’s absence from Nintendo’s latest hardware.
The shooter series has yet to be announced for the Switch 2 despite Microsoft’s earlier commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Industry reporting indicates the delay was linked to limited access to development kits during the early stages of the console’s rollout, with Nintendo initially restricting distribution of the hardware tools to selected studios.
It remains unclear whether the release would be a full mainline title, such as a possible Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, or a scaled-down version based on Call of Duty Mobile. The Switch 2’s upgraded hardware, including support for DLSS upscaling, has allowed more demanding third-party games to run on the system, making either option technically feasible.

A mobile-based version could present fewer development challenges. A recent job listing at Activision-owned Sledgehammer Games seeking candidates with experience in AAA mobile or Nintendo Switch projects has fueled speculation that existing mobile titles could influence a handheld release.
Activision reaffirmed in June 2025 that Call of Duty games were still planned for Nintendo’s handheld, though it did not provide a release date. Any formal announcement could come at Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event in January, according to industry observers.
