Rogue Masters moved out of early access on Jan. 10 with a full 1.0 release and a shift to a free-to-play model, marking a major change in direction for the six-player cooperative action game developed by Advance Garde and Main Leaf.

First released in early access in late 2023, the title positions itself as a high-occupancy, souls-like horde survival game built around deliberate combat and team coordination. Players face waves of enemies tied to a narrative centered on battling “Entropy” across fallen civilizations, using a shared Willpower resource system that culminates in coordinated Champion encounters.

The game’s cooperative focus distinguishes it from smaller-scale competitors, with developers emphasizing weapon balance and customization. Community feedback has highlighted broad weapon viability and a transmog system that allows extensive visual customization without affecting gameplay. However, the use of peer-to-peer networking rather than dedicated servers has raised concerns over latency during high-intensity sessions.

Rogue Masters has also faced scrutiny over technical and visual aspects following its full launch. Community discussions have questioned the origins of certain character rigs and animations, citing similarities to Dark Souls titles, while players have pointed to the absence of native 4K support as a drawback for a 2026 release. The game is listed as “Playable” on Steam Deck but requires manual configuration to achieve optimal display settings.

At launch, the game held a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, with 71% of 223 user reviews marked positive. While the free-to-play model has reduced barriers to entry, analysts and players alike note that its long-term viability will depend on how effectively the developers sustain engagement through non-paid progression and in-game item systems.
