Sony may be developing an upgraded version of its PlayStation Portal handheld, according to an unconfirmed report that suggests the device could receive a higher-end display as part of a future hardware refresh.
The rumor, shared by an account known as Zuby_Tech on the social media platform X, claims the Japanese electronics and gaming group is working on a new PlayStation Portal model featuring an OLED screen capable of a 120-hertz refresh rate. Sony has not announced any new hardware or confirmed the existence of an upgraded model.
If accurate, the move would mark a significant change from the current PlayStation Portal, which uses an LCD display. OLED panels are widely used in premium consumer electronics and are known for improved contrast, deeper blacks and more vivid colors, potentially enhancing the visual quality of streamed PlayStation 5 games.
The leak refers to the device as a “PlayStation Portal Pro,” although neither the name nor specifications have been acknowledged by Sony. “Sony is reportedly working on an updated version featuring an OLED display,” the post said, adding that the higher refresh rate could further improve the streaming experience.

The report comes as Sony continues to expand the role of the PlayStation Portal within its ecosystem. The company recently added native cloud streaming support for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, allowing users to stream selected PS5 titles without a console running at home. Sony has also previously refreshed the device with new color options, though no details have emerged on pricing or a potential release timeline for any upgraded model.
