Sony has begun teasing the launch of a new audio device, sharing a short video that offers few concrete details but signals an announcement planned later this month.

In the video, Sony says it has a “new form of listening” prepared, without confirming the product category or name. The company said the device will be unveiled on Jan. 21 at 16:00 UTC, leaving room for speculation among consumers and industry watchers.

The teaser imagery appears to show an audio device that rests on or around the ears rather than fitting entirely inside them, leading some observers to question whether the product is the long-anticipated WF-1000XM6 true wireless earbuds. Recent leaks and reports have suggested that Sony may not replace the WF-1000XM5 until February, making a January debut less likely.

Others have interpreted the teaser differently, with some industry blogs suggesting it could still point to a new in-ear model within Sony’s WF-1000X lineup. Sony has not commented on these reports or clarified whether the teaser refers to headphones, earbuds or a new form factor altogether.

With limited official information available, the video has left the announcement open to interpretation as Sony counts down to its January event.
