Impeller Studios has provided new details on the upcoming Early Access release of In The Black, following strong community engagement during Steam Next Fest 2025. The space simulation title drew significant attention from both players and creators, leading to a reported doubling of Steam wishlists throughout the event.
The studio said media and content creators responded positively to the game’s physics-based combat and realistic approach to space simulation. Industry observers described the title as a serious entry in the genre, noting its focus on authentic flight mechanics, detailed ship handling, and responsive user interface.
After analyzing nearly 500 feedback submissions from players, the development team identified key priorities for improvement, including tutorial design, control responsiveness, and peripheral support. The latest patch, influenced by this feedback, introduces weapon balance adjustments, improved training scenarios, and overall stability enhancements.
A broader input system overhaul is in progress to provide better support for multiple control devices such as HOTAS, HOSAS, gamepads, and keyboards. The update is being developed in collaboration with major hardware manufacturers including Logitech and Thrustmaster. Impeller Studios also announced a partnership with Alienware to introduce two exclusive ship skins, one of which carries a seasonal theme.
The Early Access launch is planned between late 2025 and early 2026. It will feature additional missions, ships, and weapons, along with enhanced tutorials, full PvP functionality, and improved performance. The studio said that head- and eye-tracking integration is also scheduled for inclusion in a future update. Regular community engagement is expected to continue through weekly livestreams, development updates, and open testing sessions as the game moves closer to release.
