Ubisoft said a new update for Far Cry 3 Classic Edition will arrive on PlayStation 5 this month, enabling 60 frames-per-second gameplay on Sony’s current-generation consoles, including the PS5 Pro. The change is aimed at delivering smoother performance for the decade-old title.
The update was announced via Ubisoft’s official social media channels and echoed by PlayStation, with a video description confirming the release date. “The update will bring 60 FPS gameplay to current gen consoles,” Ubisoft said, noting that the patch will be available on Jan. 21 for PS5 and PS5 Pro systems.
The performance upgrade brings the PlayStation version in line with existing versions on Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, where the game already runs at 60 FPS. No update has been announced for PlayStation 4, prompting criticism from some players who had hoped for similar performance improvements on older hardware.

Originally released in November 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, Far Cry 3 became one of Ubisoft’s most successful titles, surpassing 10 million copies sold by late 2014. The Classic Edition later brought the game to newer consoles with visual and gameplay adjustments.
On PlayStation 5, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is not sold as a standalone title but is included in the Far Cry Anthology Bundle on the PlayStation Store. The bundle, which also includes Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6, is currently discounted to $37.49 from its original price of $149.99, with the offer running until Jan. 22.
