Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) is reinforcing its reputation as a globally engaged and innovation-driven institution through the achievements of Dr. rer. nat. Adi Nur Cahyono, M.Pd., a Mathematics Education lecturer from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Dr. Adi was recently invited to deliver keynote speeches at two prestigious international conferences in Australia, where he presented his work on digital learning technologies and sustainable education.

Dr. Adi first addressed the 15th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-15), held from July 7–14, 2024, at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. As the world’s largest gathering in the field of mathematics education, the event brought together nearly 2,400 participants from 97 countries. Representing the UNNES Centre for Research on Math Trails with Digital Technology (mathtrailslab.id), Dr. Adi presented his research on Virtual Reality STEM Trails, developed in collaboration with research partners from Austria, the UK, Finland, and Spain.

“This research shows how immersive and digital learning environments can transform the way students engage with mathematics and STEM education,” said Dr. Adi. “It aligns with the global push for inclusive and sustainable education, as outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals.” His work supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by integrating advanced technology with inclusive learning strategies.

Following the congress, Dr. Adi was invited to Deakin University to speak at the 10th Southeast Asia Design Research Conference (SEA-DR10), themed “Fostering Common Sense in Learning: Unveiling the Potential of Design Research.” The event gathered education experts from across Southeast Asia and Europe, supported by the Freudenthal Institute in the Netherlands. Together with Prof. Dr. Zsolt Lavicza of Austria, Dr. Adi delivered a keynote titled “Fostering Teachers’ Innovations: Integrating Augmented/Virtual Reality and 3D Printing into Teacher Education,” focusing on practical ways to prepare educators for the digital future.

UNNES officials said Dr. Adi’s participation highlights the university’s continued efforts to strengthen global collaboration and promote sustainability through research and education. “His presence on the international stage underscores UNNES’s dedication to developing research with real-world impact,” the university noted in a statement.

By engaging in these international forums, UNNES continues to advance its mission as a conservation-oriented and world-class university, integrating sustainability and innovation into its academic and research agenda to shape the next generation of global educators and thinkers.
