Void Phone has introduced the VX1, a Linux-based smartphone designed to appeal to enterprise customers seeking tighter control over data and software, even as the device relies on entry-level hardware specifications.

The VX1 is based on the FuriPhone FLX1s but includes additional software customisations intended for corporate use, including Mobile Device Management tools that allow companies to remotely install software or reset devices. The phone runs on FuriOS, a mobile operating system derived from Debian Linux, positioning it as an alternative to Android-based smartphones.

Void Phone says the device is designed with privacy and control in mind. It emphasises that user data is not stored on servers abroad and that applications can be installed without relying on Google’s Play Store. A physical hardware switch on the side of the phone can disable cameras, microphones and wireless connections, a feature aimed at preventing sensitive data from being recorded or transmitted. The company highlights this as a key differentiator, noting that the switch allows users to fully cut off sensors and connectivity when required.

The hardware, however, reflects more modest ambitions. The VX1 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor from 2021, paired with 8 gigabytes of memory and 128 gigabytes of storage, expandable via microSD. It features a 6.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,600 by 720 pixels and a 90-hertz refresh rate, along with a basic camera setup and a 5,000 mAh battery.

“The Void Phone VX1 relies on Linux rather than Android and supposedly protects user data all while offering more flexible options in terms of software customization,” the article notes. The device is available only on request through the company’s website, with discounts offered for bulk orders of at least 100 units. Enterprises seeking to use the device management features must also pay a subscription fee of $2.50 per phone per month.
