Xiaomi plans to launch its electric vehicles in Europe in 2027, positioning its SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV against established automakers including Volkswagen, Volvo and Tesla.
The move marks an ambitious step for the Chinese technology company, which entered the auto sector less than two years ago.
The company’s automotive division is reportedly on track to turn profitable by the end of 2025, despite having only two car models available so far. Xiaomi has already recorded shipments in the hundreds of thousands, a milestone for a brand previously known for smartphones, smart home devices and wearables.
The company faces challenges with supply constraints for its second model, the YU7, in its domestic market. Reports indicate that Xiaomi has even encouraged customers to consider Tesla vehicles while inventory issues persist.
Scaling up production remains a key priority before expanding to Europe, where the SU7 could emerge as an alternative to Tesla’s Model Y.
