Xiaomi appears to be moving closer to launching a tracking device similar to Apple’s AirTag, after references to a “Xiaomi Tag” were found in the company’s HyperOS software code, according to recent leaks.
Code snippets from the latest HyperOS build reveal early details about the tracker’s design and hardware options. Images embedded in the software suggest the device will feature an oval-shaped body with an integrated loop for attaching it to keys or other personal items. “The initial design renders within the code suggest that it will feature an oval shape with an integrated keychain loop,” according to the leak shared by developer @kacskrz.
The code also references two versions of the tracker, one equipped with ultrawideband (UWB) technology and another without it. Both models are expected to use a CR2032 coin-cell battery, a common power source for item trackers such as Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag series.
However, the software references point only to Chinese variants of the device, raising questions about whether the tracker will initially be limited to Xiaomi’s home market. The code includes model identifiers marked for China, suggesting the first release may not be global.

Xiaomi has not confirmed the product or its launch timeline. Still, the appearance of the tracker within HyperOS suggests an announcement could be approaching, potentially following upcoming smartphone launches later this year.
