Xpeng said its new P7 electric sedan has set a record for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle in 24 hours, covering 3,961 kilometers during an endurance test in northeastern China.
The run took place in Changchun, Jilin province, between 9:02 a.m. on Aug. 14 and 9:02 a.m. on Aug. 15, with the car driving continuously at 210 kilometers per hour, including charging breaks. Xpeng said the test “verified the robustness of the P7’s core system capabilities.” The company delayed the attempt by one day because of heavy rain and fog that affected track conditions.
The result surpassed the 3,944 kilometers recorded by Xiaomi’s YU7 electric SUV in June. Other past participants in similar tests include the Porsche Taycan, which achieved 3,425 kilometers in 2019, and the Mercedes-Benz CLA, which reached 3,717 kilometers earlier this year.
Xpeng unveiled the new P7 and began pre-sales on Aug. 6, aiming for the RMB 300,000 ($41,780) price segment. Images released by the company show the latest generation will offer a variant with scissor doors, retaining a design cue from its predecessor.
