Garmin has begun rolling out System Software 20.22, the latest stable update for its Fenix 7 series, Fenix 7 Pro, and other compatible smartwatches, including the Tactix 7, Epix 2, and Enduro 2.

The update, which follows the release of System Software 20.16 less than a month ago, aims to address bugs and stability issues that arose in previous firmware versions.

The company had initially introduced System Software 20.16 with over 20 improvements, but users quickly reported new issues, prompting Garmin to re-engage its public Beta Program for further testing.

Among the most notable problems were external heart rate sensors failing to connect automatically when starting activities, as well as crashes occurring in specific scenarios, such as during jump rope workouts or when attempting to pair headphones.

In response, Garmin has now finalized System Software 20.22, which it claims resolves these concerns while further optimizing overall performance.

As is standard with Garmin’s software updates, System Software 20.22 will not be available to all eligible devices immediately.

Instead, the rollout is occurring in phases, with approximately 30% of Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2, Tactix 7, and Enduro 2 owners expected to have received update notifications by now. Users who have not yet received the update can check manually via their device settings.

Key Fixes and Improvements in System Software 20.22

The latest update brings multiple bug fixes and refinements to improve smartwatch reliability and user experience. According to Garmin’s release notes, System Software 20.22 includes the following key fixes:

    • Resolved an issue where Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensor names were being cleared unexpectedly.
    • Fixed crashes occurring during jump rope activities.
    • Addressed pairing failures when connecting headphones.
    • Corrected a bug preventing grade metrics from updating properly.
    • Improved pairing reliability with CT10 golf sensors.
    • Resolved potential crashes during long activity tracking sessions.
    • Fixed a crash occurring when moving golf pin positions.
    • Ensured that sensors automatically pair when needed.
    • Rectified issues with toggling the automatic heart rate broadcast feature.

With the release of System Software 20.22, Garmin appears to be shifting its focus from adding new features to stabilizing existing software, particularly in light of the launch of the Fenix 8 series.

The company has not indicated when or if further updates will be made available for the Fenix 7 lineup, but for now, this latest release aims to provide a smoother experience for users.
