Home Assistant has rolled out Music Assistant version 2.4, introducing new features and improvements for its open-source media library manager.

The update enhances streaming capabilities for smart home devices, including the addition of a Spotify Connect plugin, equalizer controls, and native support for podcasts and audiobooks.

The latest version brings optimizations for Assist-powered devices, such as the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition, allowing users to select songs or artists via voice commands.

It also supports external audio sources, including Spotify Connect, though a Spotify Premium account is required. Home Assistant has indicated plans to introduce an Apple AirPlay plugin in a future update.

Music Assistant 2.4 now integrates with platforms like Subsonic, YouTube, and Audible for seamless podcast and audiobook playback. A new chapter progress bar helps listeners track their place in audiobooks. Additionally, the update expands support to Apple Music, iBroadcast, and SiriusXM.

Users can also fine-tune their audio experience with a new configurable Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which includes input and output gain controls and a Parametric Equalizer (PEQ) tool. The full changelog is available on GitHub. Music Assistant version 2.4 is now accessible for all Home Assistant users.
