Huawei has confirmed that its Watch GT 6 and Watch GT 6 Pro smartwatches will launch globally on September 19, several days before their release in China. The move marks a departure from the company’s usual strategy of prioritizing its home market before international rollouts.
“Surprisingly, Huawei has now confirmed that its new wearables will land globally before they make their debut in its home market,” the company said when announcing its launch plans. The Chinese release for the Watch GT 6 series is scheduled for September 24.
The launch event later this week is expected to focus primarily on new wearable devices. Reports suggest that the Watch GT 6 series may be accompanied by the Watch Ultimate 2, which is rumored to feature silicon carbon batteries, offering a reported 65% capacity increase over its predecessor.
Huawei has not explained the reasoning behind the altered release schedule. Typically, the company introduces devices such as smartphones and foldables in China first, as was the case with the Mate XTs earlier this month. By contrast, its latest tri-fold device has yet to receive a confirmed global release date.
The company is already selling some new wearables in select European markets ahead of the September 19 event. Huawei has not disclosed pricing details for the Watch GT 6 series, though its previous wearables have been positioned in the premium smartwatch segment.
