Huawei has refreshed its luxury smartphone line with the launch of the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design, marking the latest evolution of its most elaborate handset series. The model was introduced alongside the broader Mate 80 lineup and maintains the brand’s strategy of pairing high-end hardware with an experimental design philosophy. “Huawei distinguishes the RS Ultimate Design from its regular peers with a more elaborate design,” the original announcement noted.
Built on the foundation of the Mate 80 Pro Max, the RS Ultimate Design targets the premium tier with hardware aimed to compete with flagship rivals. The device features an 8,000-nit tandem OLED display and Huawei’s Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, paired with a 6,000 mAh battery supporting 50 W wireless and 66 W wired fast charging. Huawei says the model is designed to exceed competitors such as Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra in multiple areas apart from raw computational performance.
The new edition differentiates itself from the Pro Max version through more luxurious materials. Huawei has swapped the standard metal casing for a titanium frame and a Kunlun Glass 2 rear panel, with the specialty glass also extending to the front. This configuration contributes to the handset’s overall weight of 249 g. The RS Ultimate Design also features a distinctive triple punch-hole camera layout on the front, combining a 13 MP main selfie sensor with two 3D depth sensors.

While retaining the rear camera system from the Mate 80 Pro Max, the RS Ultimate Design introduces a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner instead of an in-display sensor. The company is positioning the device as a limited premium alternative rather than a separate performance-led model. “The RS Ultimate Design stands out from its peers with a striking design to complement its high-end hardware,” Huawei said.
The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design begins at CNY 11,999 (approximately $1,694) for the 512 GB model and CNY 12,999 (around $1,835) for the 1 TB version, with both configurations shipping with 20 GB of RAM. Huawei has not yet disclosed whether the special edition will be offered outside China, leaving global availability uncertain for now.
