A pair of independent creators has released a fan-made project inspired by the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, offering what some players say is the closest experience to a new entry in the long-dormant series. The project, called Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania, was developed within Media Molecule’s Dreams platform and features environments and mechanics reminiscent of the original Nintendo 64 games. “The level channels everything you’d expect from Banjo-Kazooie,” the article said, highlighting its bright visuals and playful platforming.

The title was created by fans known as Eupholace and 1Collaborator, who incorporated both familiar references and new elements such as additional transformations and gameplay twists. Their work aims to recapture the tone and style of the original Rare-developed series, which has not seen a new mainline release in years. The project is available at no cost to players.

Because Mumbomania was built inside Dreams, users must own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 as well as a copy of the Dreams software to access it. Those who already have the necessary hardware and platform can play the fan creation immediately. The article described the project as “a lovingly crafted fan project inside Dreams.”

Rare, the studio behind the official Banjo-Kazooie games, has not announced plans for a new installment, and neither it nor its parent company has confirmed any development work on the franchise. The prolonged absence has left longtime fans eager for new content featuring the bear-and-bird duo.

For now, the release of Mumbomania provides a nostalgic alternative for players seeking a taste of the classic series. The project’s creators say their work reflects the enthusiasm of a community that continues to support the franchise decades after its debut.
