Pioneers of Pagonia, a fantasy city-building game focused on logistics and exploration rather than combat, has officially left early access and launched as a full release on Steam, its developer Envision Entertainment said.

Led by Volker Wertich, the original creator of The Settlers, the studio positions the game as a spiritual successor to transport-chain city builders. The title spent nearly two years in early access after debuting in December 2023, during which developers introduced major changes to the economy, campaign structure and procedural map generation. Envision Entertainment described the 1.0 release as the “home stretch” of a long development process rather than a reinvention of the game.

Set across procedurally generated islands, Pioneers of Pagonia tasks players with reconnecting isolated tribes by building roads, farms and workshops while managing visible supply chains in which carriers physically transport resources. The game features more than 40 buildings and hundreds of production chains, with combat included as an optional system that can be fully disabled for a purely peaceful experience.

The full release adds a seven-chapter campaign designed to function as an extended tutorial, alongside sandbox modes with adjustable difficulty and gameplay options. At launch, the game is available only on PC and is being sold at a limited-time discount of about 30% off its standard Steam price. No console versions or release dates for other platforms have been announced.

Early reception has been broadly positive. The game currently holds a “Mostly Positive” user rating on Steam, with approval in the low-to-mid-80% range, according to SteamDB. Some players have criticised the experience as repetitive or overly focused on micromanagement, while critics such as Eurogamer Germany praised its calm tone and presentation, awarding the PC version a score of 80 out of 100.
