Spotify expanding its lyrics feature with three new updates, including worldwide lyric translations, offline lyric access for premium subscribers and a redesigned preview layout aimed at increasing engagement.
The company said lyrics are among its most-used features, viewed hundreds of millions of times each day as listeners follow songs in real time. In a statement announcing the changes, Spotify said, “Lyrics are one of Spotify’s most popular features, giving fans a richer way to experience the music and artists they love.”

The streaming service is making lyric translations available globally after previously expanding the feature to more than 25 markets. For songs where translations are offered, users can tap a translate icon within the lyrics section to see translated text displayed beneath the original words. Translations will appear based on the language settings of a user’s device. The feature is available to both free and premium users worldwide.
Spotify is also introducing offline lyric access for premium subscribers. When users download songs for offline listening, the associated lyrics will now be saved automatically, allowing access without an internet connection. The company said this ensures that lyrics remain available during commutes or flights where connectivity may be limited.

In addition, Spotify is launching lyric previews that display song words directly beneath album artwork or looping Canvas clips in the Now Playing view. The feature, available globally on iOS and Android mobile devices and tablets for both free and premium users, can be turned off through the app’s settings. Spotify said it believes that “getting closer to the words helps you get closer to your favorite artists and their music,” adding that the updates are intended to make that connection more seamless.
