THQ Nordic has confirmed that the long-awaited Gothic 1 Remake will launch on June 5, 2026, ending years of speculation surrounding the project first announced in 2019.

The publisher revealed the release date on Feb. 12 alongside a new trailer offering an extended look at the updated role-playing game. The remake will debut simultaneously on PC via Steam and GOG, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No version for Nintendo’s next-generation console has been announced.

The nearly three-minute trailer features cinematic cutscenes, redesigned combat mechanics and enhanced character animations. Set in the kingdom of Myrtana, the story follows prisoners forced to work in mines beneath a magical barrier that spirals out of control, plunging the colony into disorder. According to the developers, the title has been rebuilt from the ground up to preserve the original’s atmosphere while introducing modern technical improvements.

The studio said the remake aims to deliver “a refined combat system, improved NPC behavior, more detailed quests, and expanded movement options,” while maintaining the core narrative that defined the original game. Development is being led by Alkimia Interactive following the closure of the original creator, Piranha Bytes.

Online reaction to the announcement has been largely positive, with fans expressing nostalgia and enthusiasm for the return of the classic RPG. Pre-orders for Gothic 1 Remake have opened across major platforms at a price of around $60, according to retailer listings.
