Insomniac Games has indicated that the Marvel’s Spider-Man titles are unlikely to be released on Xbox consoles, underscoring Sony’s continued focus on keeping certain single-player franchises tied to its own hardware ecosystem.

In a recent social media exchange, the studio addressed questions about a potential Xbox version, stating it is “not likely” that players will see ports of the Spider-Man games on Microsoft’s consoles. The comment comes despite a broader industry trend in which some previously platform-exclusive titles have expanded to rival systems.

The first Marvel’s Spider-Man game debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2018 before a remastered edition launched on PlayStation 5 in 2020. The franchise later expanded to Windows PCs in 2022, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 followed a similar pattern, with its PS5 release eventually arriving on Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, Xbox Series X|S consoles have not been included in those releases.

Insomniac’s latest remarks contrast with earlier comments made in 2017, when the studio said Spider-Man would “never appear on the Xbox or PC.” While PC versions later materialized, the developer now appears to be drawing a firmer line around Xbox availability. Sony has differentiated between live-service multiplayer titles, some of which have launched on multiple platforms, and narrative-driven single-player projects that remain console exclusives.

Sony Interactive Entertainment executives have previously emphasized the strategic value of exclusive single-player games in showcasing PlayStation hardware performance and encouraging console sales. At the same time, speculation continues that future Microsoft hardware could run on a modified version of Windows, potentially allowing access to PC storefronts such as Steam, where Spider-Man titles are already available.
