Nintendo has released a free interactive application featuring its flagship character, Mario, for mobile devices and its Switch family of consoles. The new app, titled Hello, Mario!, is available on Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store and the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch, Switch (OLED), Switch Lite and Switch 2 systems.

The company said the app forms part of its broader My Mario collection, a range of products and experiences aimed at children and their parents. The application does not require an internet connection, allowing users to interact with the character offline.

According to the original article, “The internet-free app allows kids and their guardians interact with Mario in several fun ways.” Through touch controls, users can pull, poke, drag or spin Mario to trigger different reactions. The app also lets children remove his hat, tug at his mustache and engage with familiar objects and characters from the Mario universe, including a peekaboo-style mini interaction.

The app incorporates built-in pauses, as Mario becomes tired after extended interaction and falls asleep temporarily. During this time, he does not respond to user input, a feature designed to encourage breaks from screen time.

In addition to the app’s release, Nintendo has begun offering other My Mario products at its retail stores in New York and San Francisco. Selected items, including a Mushroom-themed sensory grab toy for infants priced at $7.99, are also available through online retailers such as Amazon.
