Lenovo’s latest iteration of the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel has sparked discussion among tech enthusiasts, revealing both enhancements and notable omissions compared to its predecessor, the ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 Intel.
In a departure from expectations typically associated with new releases, the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel has notably forgone several features present in its predecessor.
These include the absence of OLED display options, WWAN connectivity, and a user-replaceable keyboard – features that were still available in the older Gen 4 model.
According to a detailed analysis, while the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel boasts improvements such as a stronger cooling system and a larger battery, addressing previous concerns about cooling efficiency and battery life, it does not come without trade-offs.
The new chassis design necessitates a bottom-loaded keyboard that requires full device disassembly for replacement, contrasting with the simpler process involving just two screws in the ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 Intel.
Furthermore, the shift to a 14.5-inch form factor in the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel limits display options to IPS screens, which offer higher refresh rates but are unable to match the color quality and contrast of OLED panels found in its predecessor.
