Several of the Volta Zero electric trucks and buses will undergo trials operating on the streets of London.
The trucks will be provided by the Swedish start-up to The Crown Estate, one of the largest properties in London’s expensive West End. The Crown Estate London portfolio covers 10 million sq ft of property and would be a great fit for Volta Zero which offers a range varying between 153 km and 201 km.
“The full-electric Volta Zero was specifically designed for zero-emission urban distribution with examples of use in mind for The Crown Estate and Clipper Logistics,” said Volta Trucks Chief Executive Essa Al-Saleh.
With a payload capacity of 8.6 tonnes, this vehicle was created to consolidate deliveries and reduce small vehicle congestion on downtown streets.
The Volta Zero can be equipped with either 150 kWh or 225 kWh batteries and has been designed to replace some of the smaller delivery vans. The production version was unveiled in November last year, after being first showcased as a concept in October 2019.
Volta is currently building a prototype Zero in the UK and plans to complete 25 of them this month. Interestingly, the production version will not be built in the UK and will instead be produced at a new factory in Steyr, Austria from mid-year.
For your information, logistics provider DB Schenker ordered 1,470 Volta Zero trucks late last year.
