Samsung has confirmed it will unveil its first Android XR headset, known as Project Moohan, during a global online event on October 21. The announcement marks Samsung’s formal entry into the extended reality (XR) market, in partnership with Google and Qualcomm. Early reservations are now open, offering customers a $100 Samsung Credit as an incentive.
The event, titled Worlds Wide Open, will be streamed on Samsung’s official YouTube channel and introduce what the company calls the “next phase” of its mobile AI strategy. “The headset aims to bring immersive, everyday experiences through Android XR,” Samsung said, describing the device as part of a broader initiative to merge AI and spatial computing technologies.
Reports from outlets including 9to5Google and Samsung Newsroom suggest the headset will target the premium XR segment, with an expected price above $1,800. The Samsung Credit promotion reportedly applies only to accessories and other Samsung products, not to the headset itself, signaling a high-end positioning similar to Apple’s Vision Pro rather than Meta’s more consumer-focused Quest series.
Although Samsung has not disclosed official specifications, multiple leaks point to dual 4K micro OLED displays, Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 performance, and advanced input tracking, including hand, eye, and voice controls. The headset is expected to weigh around 545 grams, deliver approximately two hours of battery life, and support external USB-C battery packs for extended use.
Project Moohan will reportedly run on Android XR, a new version of Google’s operating system optimized for spatial computing. Samsung’s presentation will begin at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, with preorders expected to open immediately following the livestream.
