Garmin has begun distributing beta software version 13.23 to users of its Instinct 3, Instinct E and Instinct Crossover smartwatches, introducing a fix for a heart rate-related issue that could cause devices to crash, according to a company forum post.

The update follows earlier beta releases 13.18 and 13.22, which carried identical change logs noting that Instinct Crossover users would receive a new watch face design. In contrast, version 13.23 lists a single bug fix affecting the heart rate broadcast function on the Instinct 3 and related models.

In the release notes, Garmin said it has “resolved an issue linked to the smartwatch’s ability to broadcast heart rate data,” a problem that users reported in the Garmin Forum’s Beta Bugs section as causing unexpected crashes.

The beta update has been delivered over the air and is available to all enrolled testers. Garmin said users should receive the software when their watch connects to the Garmin Connect smartphone app via Bluetooth or through Garmin Express on a computer.

It remains unclear when a stable public release of the 13.xx software will be made available to non-beta users. The broader update cycle is expected to introduce features including a new Treadmill Walk activity, Morning Report customization options for Instinct 3 and Instinct E models, and Pack Weight support for certain Solar, AMOLED and Crossover variants.
