A popular film with a cute villain character with a bunch of minions, Despicable Me 4 is said to be released in July 2024. The fourth film in the Illumination franchise comes 14 years after it was first introduced on the big screen by Universal Pictures.
This CGI film follows the super villain Gru as he raises three daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes. Thanks to its success, the film resulted in 2 sequels and a spin-off franchise Minions.
Reporting by ScreenRant (19/2), Illumination and Universal Pictures announced Despicable Me 4 will premiere on July 3, 2024. The film will feature Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Miranda Cosgrove, and Steve Coogan.
Director Chris Renaud, who directed since the first film, will return to his role with Patrick Delage, animation director for Sing, Sing 2, and The Secret Life of Pets 2. Illumination founder Chris Meledandri will also return as producer, with Mike White writing the original script.
Despicable Me 4 will be released 2 years after Minions: The Rise of Gru which will finally hit theaters next July after several delays. This film should have been released in July last year, but Covid-19 has had an impact on Illumination, as have other films that have received schedule delays.
The Rise of Gru will be a prequel that follows the life of a young Gru in the 1970s. Gru will compete to be part of the supervillain group The Vicious 6.
