Twitter today imposed a new ban on ads it deems “misleading” and goes against scientific consensus on climate change. As is known, the climate crisis has now become an issue that is being discussed a lot since a group of scientists expressed their concern about the Earth being destroyed day by day.

“We believe that climate disapproval should not be monetized on , and that misleading advertising should not detract from important conversations about the climate crisis,” Twitter said on their blog.

The company said it would work with “authoritative sources” to determine which ads were erroneous and should be removed. One of them is the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The IPCC has published several key reports on the climate crisis over the past few months detailing what needs to be done to adapt to the ongoing changes. The report also describes how to prevent more severe consequences in the future.

Twitter said it would soon share more details on how it plans to “add reliable and authoritative context on climate change on its platform. According to Twitter, discussions about “sustainability” on the platform have grown by more than 150% since 2021. “Decarbonation” aka removing greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels is also up 50%.
