Game developer 2K has announced that NBA basketball legend Michael Jordan will appear on the covers of the NBA 2K23 Michael Jordan Edition and Ultra-premium NBA 2K23 Championship Edition. The 14-time NBA All-Star, five-time NBA Most Valuable Player, six-time NBA World Champion, and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer are considered perfect for this year’s NBA 2K 25th anniversary theme: Answer the Call.
“After making the number 23 the most famous number in the entire sporting world, it’s only fitting for NBA 2K23 that we introduce the Michael Jordan Edition,” said Alfie Brody, NBA 2K Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy, in a statement issued Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
Alfie said Jordan was back to star on the two covers of NBA 2K23, while providing an opportunity for fans old and new to celebrate the talent that has amazed the world for the player in the position of shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls. Jordan has previously been the cover of NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12, and NBA 2K16 Special Edition.
Especially for the latest premium edition of the NBA 2K23 Championship Edition, according to Alfie, no other player can represent the word ‘champion’ like Jordan. This limited edition version will also offer players the opportunity to follow all NBA games throughout the season using the 12-month NBA League Pass included with purchase.
“We look forward to celebrating this game with the community when it’s released on September 9,” he said.
The return of Michael Jordan to grace the cover of NBA 2K23 this year will also reintroduce The Jordan Challenge in the game. Players will be encouraged to recreate 15 iconic moments from Jordan’s career from college to playing for the American basketball team.
The whole consists of the ten original challenges that were first introduced in the completely rebuilt NBA 2K11 and the rest of the new Jordan’s iconic moments. Includes video vignettes with special commentary from NBA characters: Jordan’s teammates, opponents, and other sports personalities, who see Jordan in action and can live up to his legacy to a younger generation of NBA fans.
“This challenge leverages more than a decade of technological leaps to provide an entirely new way to play out Jordan’s achievements – all housed within a separate game mode,” said Alfie.
