Qualcomm is reportedly working on a new chipset for wearables. While Apple continues to release powerful chipsets, Qualcomm hasn’t given a refresh to its WearOS-based smartwatch since 2020.
Now, the latest report says the company will soon release a new chipset for smartwatches. In a recent post on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Twitter account, the company hinted at a new chipset that appears to be aimed at flagship smartwatches.
“The clock is ticking on something big,” the company tweeted.
While it doesn’t explicitly say the chipset is for the smartwatch, the tweet uses a watch emoji. In addition, the “big thing” mentioned in the tweet is speculated to refer to a high-end smartwatch with modern manufacturing processes, as reported by SamMobile (13/7).

In a separate report, Qualcomm is rumored to be launching two new wearable chips soon, namely Snapdragon Wear 5100 and Snapdragon Wear 5100+. Both chipsets are made using the 4nm process from Samsung Foundry.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Series is powered by the Exynos W920 chip produced through Samsung Foundry’s 5nm fabrication process, while the Apple S7 chip uses TSMC’s 7nm process.
If the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon chip is manufactured with a 4nm fabrication, then it will be the strongest chip with much faster performance and longer battery life for WearOS smartwatches.
