Google reportedly helped reduce the number of new hires for their company for the rest of 2022. Previously, other technology giants such as Microsoft and Meta had previously announced a reduction in the number of new hires in their companies.
This news comes from an internal Google memo that was obtained by The Verge. The memo, which was written directly by CEO Sundar Pichai, is intended for employees at the company.
Through a memo he wrote, Pichai said, Google still has to pay attention to the challenges of the global economy that is happening. This is what makes the company set a policy to reduce the number of their new hires.
Even so, the memo reveals, the company will not freeze employee recruitment in full. Google will still recruit a limited number of new employees, especially for engineers, technicians and some other important personnel.
“We are focusing our hiring on engineers, technicians and other key roles and ensuring the great talent we hire is aligned with our long-term priorities,” Pichai wrote in the memo.
Through this decision, the company inevitably had to stop their development in a number of sectors. Pichai said, Google will divert existing resources to other priority sectors.
Google isn’t the only company that has put the brakes on hiring new employees. Previously, Meta had also sent memos to employees warning of a reduction in hiring in several divisions.
