Apple on Tuesday introduced the Apple Watch Ultra 3, its latest premium smartwatch featuring a larger always-on display, expanded connectivity options and new health functions. The device will begin shipping on Sept. 19 with a starting price of $799.
The Ultra 3 debuts with a 49 mm titanium case, a new LTPO3 display capable of 3,000 nits brightness, and extended battery life of up to 72 hours in low power mode, the company said. Fast charging provides 12 hours of use with just 15 minutes of power.
One of the headline additions is an AI-powered system that monitors users for hypertension risk. By analyzing 30 days of heart sensor data, the watch can generate notifications when abnormalities are detected. “The Ultra 3 introduces AI-powered hypertension alerts based on 30-day heart sensor data,” Apple said. The feature has undergone clinical study but has not yet received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.
Connectivity upgrades include 5G support and satellite communication, which enables users to send Emergency SOS texts worldwide in areas without cellular coverage. Apple said two years of satellite service will be included with each device. The watch also supports offline maps, improved GPS tracking and a new compass-based Waypoint watch face.
Running on watchOS 26, the Ultra 3 offers a redesigned interface called Liquid Glass and AI-driven features such as Workout Buddy, which provides spoken motivation and analysis during exercise. Bands are available in four series, including Alpine Loop, Trail Loop, Ocean Band and a titanium Milanese Loop, with the latter carrying a $100 premium.
