AWS Integrates AT&T Network into Interconnect Service to Strengthen Enterprise Cloud Connectivity

The partnership expands private, high-speed connections between enterprise networks and AWS while supporting data centers, branch offices and remote locations.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has expanded its managed AWS Interconnect service by integrating AT&T’s enterprise network, giving organizations another option for establishing dedicated private connections between their on-premises infrastructure and the AWS cloud.

The integration is initially available through a gated preview for U.S. customers and strengthens AWS’ strategy of simplifying enterprise cloud networking through managed connectivity services.

    Streamlining Private Cloud Connectivity

AWS Interconnect is designed to connect branch offices, corporate campuses, data centers and remote facilities directly to AWS using private, high-bandwidth network links.

Rather than requiring customers to manually provision and configure network infrastructure, the managed service automates much of the deployment process.

Once a physical connection is established, customers receive an AWS-generated activation key that enables rapid provisioning of dedicated cloud connectivity.

The platform also automates several network engineering tasks, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) peering, Virtual LAN (VLAN) configuration and Autonomous System Number (ASN) assignment, reducing deployment complexity while supporting enterprise-grade service level agreements.

    Expanding the AWS Connectivity Ecosystem

AT&T joins a growing ecosystem of telecommunications providers participating in AWS Interconnect.

The integration follows AWS’ introduction of the service during its re:Invent conference and builds on recent additions of other network providers as the company expands global enterprise connectivity options.

By integrating carrier infrastructure directly into AWS networking services, organizations can simplify hybrid cloud deployments while improving network consistency across distributed enterprise environments.

    Broader Infrastructure Partnership

The latest integration also expands an existing strategic collaboration between AWS and AT&T announced earlier this year.

Under that agreement, AT&T is migrating portions of its internal business systems from traditional on-premises infrastructure to managed cloud environments built on AWS Outposts, allowing cloud services to operate within AT&T’s own facilities.

The migration incorporates AWS Professional Services together with AI-powered development tools including Amazon Q Developer and AWS Agentic Services to modernize legacy business applications.

AT&T expects the transition to improve operational resilience while accelerating infrastructure modernization.

    Fiber and Satellite Connectivity

The collaboration extends beyond cloud software into physical network infrastructure.

AWS is leveraging AT&T’s expanding fiber-optic network to strengthen connectivity between enterprise customers and AWS data centers.

AT&T recently expanded that network through its acquisition of Lumen Technologies’ consumer fiber business, increasing its fiber footprint to approximately 32 million locations.

The companies are also collaborating on satellite communications, with AT&T planning to use Amazon’s Project Kuiper low Earth orbit satellite network to deliver broadband services in areas where terrestrial connectivity remains limited.

    Engineering Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure

As enterprises continue distributing applications across on-premises systems, edge locations and public cloud environments, network architecture has become increasingly important to overall system performance.

Managed interconnection services such as AWS Interconnect reduce the engineering effort required to build secure, high-performance hybrid cloud networks while allowing organizations to scale connectivity more efficiently.

By combining AT&T’s telecommunications infrastructure with AWS cloud networking services, the partnership aims to provide enterprises with a more resilient, automated and flexible connectivity platform capable of supporting modern data center operations, distributed workloads and future cloud expansion.
