Capcom is expected to significantly expand its presence on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 in 2026, with a focus on its long-running Resident Evil franchise, according to a well-known industry leaker. The move would mark a shift away from cloud-based releases, enabled by the handheld’s upgraded hardware specifications.

The outlook follows the announcement that Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on Feb. 27, 2026. Leaker NateTheHate2 said during a recent podcast that remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and possibly Resident Evil 4 could also arrive on the Switch 2 before the end of the year, joining versions already available on other platforms.

In Japan, Capcom is preparing a 30th anniversary package for the PlayStation 5 that includes Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 in their Z-rated editions, along with Resident Evil 4. NateTheHate2 said he expects these titles to make their way to Nintendo’s new system, adding that the games would “suit handheld mode very well,” given their structure and popularity.

At present, the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes are only playable on the current Switch through cloud streaming. The Switch 2’s enhanced performance is expected to allow Capcom’s RE Engine to run locally, potentially supporting features such as ray tracing and higher refresh rates comparable to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions.

Beyond Resident Evil, Capcom is also planning to bring additional titles to the Switch 2, including Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Pragmata in the first half of 2026. A Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds is also rumored, as the publisher looks to broaden its audience by taking advantage of a more capable handheld platform.
