Anime-style action RPG Duet Night Abyss officially launched on Steam on Jan. 19, 2026, following a short delay from its original December schedule. The free-to-play title, developed by Pan Studio and published by Hero Games, debuted with a 67% “Mixed” user rating as players assessed its revamped business model against lingering technical and design concerns.

The game has drawn attention for abandoning traditional gacha mechanics in August 2025, removing randomised character and weapon pulls entirely. Instead, players can unlock the full roster through a progression system called Covert Commissions, which allows characters and equipment to be obtained directly by farming in-game items. Many players have praised the approach, with reviews describing the monetisation model as a “10/10”.

Set on the continent of Atlasia, where magic and machinery coexist, Duet Night Abyss follows two protagonists in a dual narrative that converges later in the story. Gameplay focuses on fast-paced combat that blends melee and ranged attacks, with some players comparing its style to Warframe and the visual design of Wuthering Waves. The Steam launch build, version 1.1 titled “Huaxu,” adds a new Oriental-themed region alongside broad visual improvements to character models and lighting.

Despite the positive response to its monetisation, criticism has focused on the gameplay experience and interface. Players have cited “clunky” animations and an overcomplicated user interface, with some reviews noting the presence of “20 different menus.” Others said that while the removal of stamina limits enables unlimited farming, the loop can feel repetitive because characters currently have only two active abilities.

On the technical side, the PC version supports Nvidia DLSS and frame generation and is seen by some users as more stable than several recent JRPG launches. However, it remains demanding, with 32 GB of RAM recommended and an RTX 2060 suggested for optimal performance. While full controller support is included, Steam Deck compatibility remains unverified, and some users have reported lingering mobile-style prompts such as “tap,” indicating incomplete optimisation for PC.
