Former Saints Row Director Says $100 Price for GTA 6 Would Be Justified

Chris Stockman argues Rockstar’s next title could be the only game able to sustain a higher standard price due to its scale and production value.

As anticipation builds for Rockstar Games’ upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, discussion continues around its potential retail price. While the studio has yet to reveal details, former Saints Row director Chris Stockman said in a recent interview that a $100 price tag for GTA 6 would be “perfectly normal” given the scale of the project.

“They’re the only ones that can get away with it,” Stockman told Esport Insider. “I really hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100. The scope and magnitude of this production deserves that price tag, but not everything is treated equally. It would be a disaster if everyone tried to match them.”

His remarks come amid widespread speculation that Rockstar may set a new industry benchmark for pricing. While most new video games currently sell for $70, some analysts and fans have predicted that GTA 6, expected to release in 2026, could surpass that due to its long development cycle and high production costs.

Stockman emphasized that GTA’s global popularity and reputation for expansive open-world gameplay could allow it to command a higher price without alienating its audience. He added that other studios should not follow suit, warning that such a shift could trigger backlash among consumers.

Although premium and collector’s editions of games often reach or exceed $100, the possibility of a standard version at that price would mark a significant change in mainstream gaming. Rockstar Games has not commented on pricing or release details for GTA 6, which remains one of the industry’s most anticipated titles.
