Garmin Faces Delays in Stable Updates for Fenix 7 Series

Older flagship models remain on v22.06 as beta testing continues

Garmin has rolled out stable software updates for several of its smartwatch lines, including older models such as the Instinct 2 and Instinct Crossover. However, the company’s Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro remain without an update beyond System Software 22.06, first released almost three months ago.

The delay comes as Garmin shifts focus to its newer flagship, the Fenix 8 Pro, now retailing for around $1,199. While beta testing of version 23.xx has been ongoing, the company has yet to finalize a stable release for the Fenix 7 range or related models such as the Enduro 2 and Quatix 7.

“Specifically, Garmin has offered Beta Version 23.17 to fix an issue with rep counting during activities,” the company said in its release notes. The update, issued nearly two weeks after the previous beta build, introduces only minor adjustments, suggesting further testing cycles ahead.

Among the fixes across versions 23.16 and 23.17 are corrections to navigation data, sensor pairing, course loading, and swim-tracking errors. ECG functionality remains disabled, signaling that additional builds are likely before a wider rollout.

For now, the gap between the last stable release and the latest beta underscores the slower pace of software development for Garmin’s outgoing models, even as new features and refinements are being concentrated on its latest devices.
