Garmin has expanded its lineup of satellite communicators with the introduction of the inReach Mini 3 and inReach Mini 3 Plus. The new models maintain the compact form factor of previous versions while incorporating significant design and feature updates aimed at outdoor users who require connectivity beyond cellular coverage.

Both units feature redesigned bodies equipped with a 1.88-inch colour touchscreen offering a resolution of 306 x 230 pixels, allowing users to compose messages directly through the Garmin Messenger app using a built-in keyboard. The devices function via the Iridium satellite network and can contact emergency services when smartphones are outside cellular range. One portion of the source article notes that the Mini 3 series provides “satellite voice messaging and emergency response integration using the Iridium satellite network.”

Garmin requires an inReach subscription for messaging and additional services, with available plans extending to a Premium tier costing $59.99 per month. According to the company, the inReach Mini 3 series delivers up to 14 days of battery life and carries IP67 dust- and water-resistance certification. Livetrack sharing, TracBack routing and Garmin Weather are supported across both models.

The primary differences between the two devices lie in communication features. The inReach Mini 3 Plus adds photo and voice messaging capabilities, leading to a $50 price premium over the standard version. As a result, the company positions the Plus model as an option for travellers who expect to document or record voice messages during remote expeditions.

Garmin has opened orders for both variants, with pricing set at $449.99 for the inReach Mini 3 and $499.99 for the inReach Mini 3 Plus. Shipments are expected to begin immediately according to regional availability.
