Garmin has begun distributing a new stable software update to several of its older Forerunner smartwatches, aiming to improve usability and resolve lingering software issues as the company opens 2026.
The update, known as Software Version 27.09, is now reaching devices including the Forerunner 165, 255, 265, 955 and 965. It marks the first stable release of the year for these models and follows a beta program that concluded late in 2025.

While the update does not introduce new features, it incorporates fixes previously tested in Garmin’s beta channel. Among the changes is smoother scrolling within the Activity Summary menu, an area where users had previously reported inconsistent performance.
Garmin also addressed stability issues affecting workouts and training tools. The company said the update fixes a potential crash during swimming activities and resolves a problem that caused race time predictions to disappear from Garmin Coach Plans. In addition, touchscreen responsiveness for handling incoming calls has been corrected on all supported models except the Forerunner 255.

Beyond the listed items, Garmin said it has included “various other bug fixes and stability improvements,” though it did not provide further details on those changes.
The rollout is being delivered in phases and is expected to reach all eligible devices over the coming days. Users can also manually check for the update through the watch’s system software update menu.
