Google has extended operating system update support for its Pixel Tablet, allowing the device to receive major Android upgrades for five years instead of the three originally promised.
The Pixel Tablet, introduced in June 2023 with Android 13, was initially set to receive major software and feature updates only until June 2026, while continuing to get security patches for five years. An update to Google’s support documentation now indicates that the tablet will receive operating system updates for five years after launch, extending support through Android 18.

The change brings the Pixel Tablet closer to Google’s more recent update policies, though it still falls short of newer Pixel smartphones such as the Pixel 10, which are eligible for up to seven years of operating system and security updates.
Google previously made a similar adjustment at the end of 2024, when it expanded major Android update support for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 smartphones from three to five years.

The decision may also reflect shifts in Google’s hardware strategy, as reports suggest a second-generation Pixel Tablet has been cancelled. While the first Pixel Tablet was well received for its battery life, build quality and speaker dock, it faced criticism for lacking 5G connectivity and relying on a 60-hertz display with thick bezels that were already dated at launch.
