Fitbit is piloting a new experimental feature called Unusual Trends within Fitbit Labs, available to a limited number of users with Fitbit and Google Pixel wearables. The tool is intended to identify irregularities in health data that may indicate physical or emotional stress.
The system evaluates various biometric factors, including heart rate variability, average heart rate during non-REM sleep, and average respiration rate. By comparing these data points against a user’s historical averages, it can highlight unusual fluctuations that might signal stress responses or early signs of illness.

Fitbit has indicated that these changes can be influenced by multiple factors, such as travel, alcohol use, or respiratory conditions. When an anomaly is detected, users receive a notification suggesting they record any relevant symptoms. The company emphasized that the feature is not a substitute for professional medical assessment.
Participants can check their eligibility for the feature through the Fitbit app under You > Fitbit Labs > See all. Those who enroll must consent to share anonymized health data for research and product development.
