The indie title Megabonk, developed solo by creator Vedinad, has sold more than one million copies within two weeks of its September 18 release, according to a post from the developer. The 3D reverse bullet hell roguelike has quickly become one of Steam’s most popular games, reaching a peak of over 102,000 concurrent players and placing sixth on the platform’s global top-sellers list.
In a message shared on social media, Vedinad celebrated the milestone, writing that one million copies had been sold in just two weeks. The game, priced at $5.49, has drawn strong attention for its accessible gameplay loop and comedic tone, echoing the steady success of other indie sensations like Lethal Company and Peak.
Megabonk offers a 3D twist on the growing “reverse bullet hell” genre, featuring over 20 playable characters and mechanics such as jumping and sliding. The title’s mix of chaotic action and lighthearted style has helped it sustain an average of around 90,000 daily players, outperforming several major releases, including Borderlands 4.
Steam data indicates that Megabonk currently maintains a “Very Positive” rating of more than 91% from over 17,000 user reviews, reflecting widespread player satisfaction. Critics have highlighted its addictive gameplay and replay value, crediting its success to its balance of simplicity, creativity, and humor.
Vedinad has hinted at further updates, including the addition of multiplayer features, to build on the game’s growing popularity. Megabonk’s rapid ascent underscores the continued appeal of low-cost, high-engagement indie titles that leverage simple mechanics to deliver lasting entertainment.
