Game studio Redemption Road has indefinitely delayed the early access launch of its upcoming title Kingmakers, which was originally scheduled to debut on October 8. The developer said the decision followed internal discussions about the state of the game and the need for further refinement before release.

In a statement, the studio said it did not want to compromise on the game’s scope or features, describing Kingmakers as “an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game.” The team added that it wants to ensure players receive a product that aligns with the original vision before charging money for early access.

Kingmakers blends real-time strategy with third-person shooting mechanics, allowing players to combine modern weapons with medieval warfare. The game promises large-scale battles with tens of thousands of AI soldiers and fully destructible environments, including six-story castles that can be explored room by room.

The studio, which said 80% of its staff are engineers, noted that it had pushed Unreal Engine 4’s codebase “to the absolute limit” to achieve smooth 60 frames per second gameplay on a range of hardware. A full drop-in, drop-out multiplayer mode and support for player-built structures are also planned.

Although no new release date has been set, Redemption Road said a 30-minute gameplay deep dive will be published soon to showcase progress. The title first gained widespread attention after its trailer went viral last year, drawing interest for its mix of time travel, large-scale combat, and technical ambition.
