Microsoft has expanded Flight Simulator 2024 with a new fictional environment based on the Jurassic World film franchise. The add-on, titled Jurassic World: Archipelago, is priced at US$20 at launch and adds a set of islands located near Costa Rica, marking a departure from the simulation’s traditionally realistic geography.
The company said the content is set shortly before the events of the first 2015 Jurassic World movie. According to the original description, the expansion “does not really fit into a serious simulation,” but is intended to give players access to an entirely new fictional region. The add-on does not alter aircraft physics or core flight systems.
The DLC includes 12 helipads and nine airfields, each with newly assigned ICAO-style codes beginning with the prefix JW. While these identifiers mirror the structure of real-world codes, none of the locations exist outside the game. The fictional prefix contrasts with standard aviation conventions, where letters typically indicate world regions or national systems.
In collaboration with developer Orbx, the expansion integrates scenes inspired by the Jurassic World universe. Nine types of dinosaurs appear across the islands, including well-known species highlighted in the franchise. Gameplay tasks include photo survey missions, VIP transport operations and challenge flights. The package also incorporates the film’s soundtrack.

Microsoft said the add-on offers players the first chance to explore the Jurassic World setting in a flight-simulation environment. The company indicated that the US$20 launch price is temporary and will increase to US$25 later.
